The Iwo Jima wood ornament honors the six service members who raised the second American flag atop Mount Suribachi on February 23, 1945. Five Marines and one Navy corpsman worked together in a moment that became one of the most recognized images in American history.

The strength of this scene comes from the way the figures move as one. Each service member leans into the effort beneath the rising flag, surrounded by engraved stars and a border reading “United States of America” and “250 Years of Freedom.”
We preserved the details that give the scene its meaning: the uniforms, equipment, rocky terrain, flagpole, and flag moving above them. Behind the figures, stripes and stars cut through the maple front to reveal the darker cherry layer underneath.
🪖 How the Iwo Jima Wood Ornament Creates Depth
We build this design from two layers of premium plywood. Natural maple forms the detailed front, while warm cherry provides contrast through the flag openings. The layered construction gives the figures dimension while keeping the recognizable silhouette at the heart of the piece.
The ornament measures approximately 3.5 inches wide by 3.8 inches tall. An attached brown cord makes it ready for a Christmas tree, ornament stand, wreath, wall hook, or year-round military display.

This design required a careful balance between fine detail and the strength of its familiar silhouette. We used precise engraving to preserve the figures, uniforms, equipment, flag, and rocky terrain while allowing the contrasting wood layers to add depth without distracting from the scene.
🪵 Natural Wood Layers
- The front layer is premium maple plywood, chosen for its lighter natural tone and clear engraved detail.
- The back layer is premium cherry plywood, creating warm contrast behind the cut-through flag and stars.
- Each layer is approximately 1/8 inch thick and has real wood veneer with a wood core.
- The wood has a natural, supplier-applied protective finish. We add no stain or additional clear coat.

❤️ Returns & Damage
Because each piece is made to order, all sales are final and we do not accept returns or exchanges. If your ornament arrives damaged during shipping, contact us within five business days of delivery and include photographs of both the product and its packaging. We will assist with the carrier claim and work to make it right. If damage results from our workmanship, we will replace the affected piece.
